Social enterprise wine? Finally, there’s such a thing!

We are so proud at Goody Goody to be supporting the critical, life-saving work of Sanku Project Healthy Children – a not-for-profit charity. As a social enterprise we’ve made a commitment to fund life-saving nutrition for one child in Africa for a whole year for every single bottle of Goody Goody wines purchased.

The problem

Africa is hardest hit by malnutrition. Most don’t have access to healthy foods, and every meal is primarily starchy flour. Lacking key vitamins and minerals in their diets results in 8,000 children dying globally every day from preventable sicknesses. This must stop!
We add lifesaving micronutrients that are scientifically proven to improve health and vitality, into the food Africans eat the most. How?

The solution

1. Sanku installs a dosifier, which adds a precise amount of critical nutrients to flour, onto the small African flour mills that produce and sell the staple food families eat every day.

2. Sanku offsets the cost of the miller’s nutrients by bulk buying empty pink flour bags, which are then sold to the millers to pack their flour. The savings from each flour bag are enough to cover the entire price of the miller’s nutrients.

3. Sanku monitors the miller’s use of the dosifier remotely through a cellular link, and visits the mill if the dosifier is not in use or needs repair, as well as to restock their nutrients.

The result

Now it is easy for rural millers to produce quality fortified flour, and families can finally afford to buy and eat healthy food everyday. Children get the key nutrients they need and lives are saved.

Why Sanku Project Healthy Children

We wanted our contributions to have the largest possible impact so we approached ‘The Life You Can Save’ who have researched thousands of the World’s leading charities to shortlist those with the highest impact and demonstrated to be the most cost-effective. Out of all of these, Sanku Project Healthy Children is listed in their top 20 Global Best Charities having already reached 55 Million people, saving countless lives. Food fortification takes pressure off healthcare systems by preventing illness and disease. It also helps grow developing economies. The Copenhagen Consensus estimates that each dollar spent on iron and iodine fortification could yield over US$9 in economic benefit.

Our target for our first year of business was to reach 10,000 children, and we ended up reaching over 12,000. In our second year we’re hoping to reach 15,000 and our five-year goal is to reach a total of 100,000 children.
